生化机理	May act as a physical homophilic interaction molecule between intestinal epithelial cells (IECs) and intraepithelial lymphocytes (IELs) at the mucosal epithelium for providing immunological barrier as a first line of defense against mucosal infection. Plays a role in embryonic stem cells proliferation and differentiation. Up-regulates the expression of FABP5, MYC and cyclins A and E.

Multicolor flow cytometric analysis of EpCAM/CD326 expression on live mouse thymocytes. C57BL/6 mouse thymocytes were stained with CD8 alpha Rat mAb (AF647) (Ab190218), CD4 Rat mAb (FITC) (Ab181110) and either Rat IgG (Biotin) (Ab180310; Left panel) or EpCAM/CD326 Rat mAb (Biotin) (Ab191759; Right panel) at 0.3 μg/test. Then incubated with Recombinant Streptavidin Protein (R-PE) (rp156150) at 0.1μg/test for 30 minutes at 4°C in the dark. A bivariate pseudocolor density plot showing the correlated expression of CD326 (EpCAM) expression (or Isotype control staining) was derived from CD4- gated events with the forward and side light-scatter characteristics of viable thymocytes.
